Coordination Meeting of Nepal SDGs Forum

Coordination Meeting of CSOs Forum on Sustainable Development Goals in Nepal (Nepal SDGs Forum) was held in Kathmandu on 24th August 2016.

 

The meeting was divided into two sessions. First session was focused on brief sharing about the SDG related activities and second was on how the Nepalese CSOs will work together in upcoming days on different Goals. Both the sessions were participated by representatives of Nepalese CSOs, multi-lateral and bilateral agencies had shared their initiatives for localizing SDGs in Nepalese context.

 

Altogether seventy representatives representing more than ten thousands of Nepalese CSO's agreed to work together for the proper implementation of SDGs with the mission of no one is left behind. In the program members of SDGs forum highlighted the positive and key concerns of agenda 2030 through civil society perspective and the expectations of CSOs from the Government. During the meeting, they also shared their experience of SDGs meetings, workshops and conferences held at international level.

 

In the second session of the program, Executive Director of NFN, Mr. Daya Sagar Shrestha presented the paper on High Level Political Forum of SDGs, and international initiatives.He also highlighted the efforts of Nepalese CSOs for proper implementation of SDGs and their contribution on agenda 2030. He also presented the possible roles of CSOs in local context. Mr. Shrestha also shared about the upcoming meeting of different thematic groups of SDGs and constituencies. All the participants agreed to organize half day intensive constituency and thematic areas' meeting of SDGs on 22nd September 2016. The meeting voluntarily formed a task force led by Bhawana Bhatta, the Central Committee Member of NFN. The task force will be responsible to coordinate other stakeholders for further preparation of the constituency meeting. The meeting advised some of the organizations to coordinate the constituencies and major groups thematic discourse.

 

Also, they have been advised to form their own working groups to intensify their engagement on these agenda. Finally, Gopal Lamsal, the President of NGO federation of Nepal and chair of the program suggested for developing a guideline framework to organize the constituency and thematic areas' meeting.  He also reiterated that NFN will ready to form other task forces if they need to ensure SDGs in Nepal. Before the end of the programme all participants expressed their commitment to sit together in future to discuss about the upcoming events of SDGs.
