NGO Federation of Nepal in collaboration with Foundation de France, Humanitarian Accountability Monitoring Initiative and National Disaster Management Network of Nepal organized a 'Multi-stakeholder Policy Dialogue on National Coordinating Mechanisms for Disaster Risk Reduction' in Kathmandu on 15th April 2019. Mr. Sushil Gyawali, chief executive officer at National Reconstruction Authority, Nepal joined the program as the chief guest. Mr. Gyawali asked the likeminded civil societies and stakeholders to prepare a quarterly report to track the progress on disaster risk reduction. He also requested all the stakeholders to join hands for disaster preparedness.
There were paper presentations on the roles and responsibilities of civil society organizations on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and legal policy on DRR and challenges in implementation. The main objective of organizing the dialogue was to strengthen existing national coordination mechanisms for disaster risk management and expand the roles and responsibilities of CSOs in DRR. The dialogue helped in creating a common understanding on the basic principles of national policy, act and its application for DRR to enhance the work of existing multi-sector coordination structures and expand fields of activities of the existing National Platform in line with its policy.
